Bishop L. Bevel Jones III


Bishop L. Bevel Jones III is special assistant in the Development Office of his alma mater, the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and Bishop in Residence at First United Methodist Church, Decatur, Georgia--a congregation he served as senior minister from 1967-76. He served six United Methodist churches in North Georgia over a period of 35 years. He was elected bishop in 1984 and was assigned to the Western North Carolina Annual Conference. He is active on the board of the Alliance for Christian Media, parent organization of "Day1" (formerly "The Protestant Hour"), the Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters, the Regional Council of Churches of Atlanta, and many other organizations and schools. He is the author of One Step Beyond Caution: Reflections on Life and Faith. He and his wife, the former Mildred Hawkins (affectionately known as "Tuck"), live in Decatur. They have three children and six grandchildren.
